LifeID: Latent Immune Function Evaluation and Identification
Impaired immune response accounts for majority of morbidity and mortality associated with infectious diseases. While healthy individuals can defend the onslaught of infectious agents, immune compromised individuals, and the elderly with declining immunity succumb to infections. Best example is the recent Covid19 pandemic where the 3% mortality reported worldwide was highly skewed towards the elderly and immune compromised individuals. We have identified a panel of sixteen (16) serum and urine biomarkers linked to immunity and can be used as a report card on individual health status. Knowledge about the expression status of these markers in serum and urine of an individual can help tweak the innate immune response of individual. Here we propose further validating our findings and developing this into a clinical testing device.
PriME, Protective Immune Modulation of Effector Function
Impaired immunity due to poor immune effector function is responsible for majority of mortality associated with respiratory diseases, including Covid-19. We have identified a panel of molecules for measuring impaired immune effector functions and tools to modulate a protective immune response, which we call Protective Immune Modulation Mechanism for Augmented Effector functions (PriME). Once validated we believe, can reduce mortality associated with many infectious and metabolic respiratory diseases. Augmenting body’s own immune defense against invading infection is better than treatment of the symptoms.
ANTS: Anti-infective Nanoparticles for Treatment of Drug-Restance
Lung is constantly exposed to microorganisms in the environment. The first level of protection in lung alveoli is provided by the mucus produced by alveolar cells, which prevent invasion of cells by any pathogens by producing anti-infective peptides and surfactants proteins. Although in majority of infections this first line of defense works, for many elderly and immune challenged individuals this level of protection is impaired and causes disease. A good example is with Covid19 where as much as 80 percent increase incidence is seen in the elderly over 60 years of age. In order to improve the health of those with lung infections stemming from medical conditions such as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis, Sepsis, etc. we have identified and now developing a novel Anti-Infective Nanoparticle based on Lipoprotein Surfactant (AINS) matrix. AINS mimics natural mucus substances in our lungs and helps provide additional protection for people with impaired lung defense mechanisms.
COBRA: Collagen Based Supplements Replacement for Bone and Muscle Erosion
Extracellular matrix plays an important role in providing the body structure and strength. Typically, there is an age dependent erosion of this matrix. Some of the key molecules involved in this process are collagens, glycans, etc. Age dependent joint pains and loss of muscle strength are associated with this. Many scientific studies show that replacement of these molecules via food can help to restore some of these deficiencies. We have identified and developed a recipe of molecules, which are normally present in our body, that will help to eliminate joint pains and restore muscle weakness.
GeneVerify: Diagnostics for Cancer
Cancer is a complex disease with various etiology and multigene effects. Genetic variations in the cells are fundamental in all cancers. Epigenetics also contributes to it. Here we propose a multigenic analysis of mRNAs related to each cancer for prediction and diagnosis of cancer in a patient by using a small blood sample.
D2D: Diagnosis and Treatment for Diabetes
Diabetes is a complex disease. Currently, type-2 diabetes is managed by Insulin and regulating food. Insulin resistance is considered a major reason developing type-2 diabetes. But what is the reason for developing insulin resistance? We believe it is an age-dependent phenomenon associated with the lack of some critical molecules in the food or the body not able to make it. Our research is fast progressing towards identifying some of these molecules.
